MY SPEECH ON ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION WHICH I DELIVERED DURING AWARENESS MEETING ON ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES IN OUR SCHOOL.
The principal,deputy principal, teachers, parents and my fellow students good morning?I congratulate you all for turning up in large numbers so that we can discuss the main calamity which is affecting all of us.This calamity is is now being spoken on not only by us here but in the whole world.The calamity is other than environmental pollution.Environmental pollution means making our surroundings harmful,discontaminated, dangerous or making it to have more side effects.
There are different forms of pollution which we need to know and also know how to overcome them.The various forms of pollution include:air pollution,water pollution,soil pollution and sound pollution.These types of pollution are caused by us human beings either knowingly or unknowingly by different activities we carry out in our daily work.
Environmental pollution is caused by many factors.One of the factor that causes pollution is the tremendous increase in population.Am not saying that it is sin for population increase,but we have to know that more people on earth means more waste materials being created and released in the atmosphere thus causing pollution.
Another factor that causes pollution is the advanced science and technology.Although science and technology has more positive inpacts in our lives such as making our daily activities easier and making our lives smooth,it has also given rise to a variety of harmful effects to the environment.
The various various types of environmental pollution are caused by different factors which are ignited by us human beings.For example air pollution is caused by smoke from factories, exhausted fumes from vehicles and burning of garbage containing chemical materials.
Water pollution on the other hand is caused when toxic or harmful waste materials are disposed off into water sources such as sees and rivers.When oil from water machines spill on water,it cause pollution as it prevents oxygen from entering the water hence causing aquatic deaths.
On the other hand,soil pollution is caused by incorrect methods of waste disposal.Radioactive waves from electronic objects and non biodegradable materials such as plastics, polythene papers and metals soil if they are not properly disposed.This form of pollution causes more effects such as low productivity which causes hunger and suffering to ourselves.
Another type of pollution which has been caused by modernisation is sound pollution.The enormous noise caused by industrial and transport activities has become a health hazard.This form of pollution has resulted in more side effects such as ear problems which in turn causes total hearing impairment which is now the main problem in the whole world.
We all know that it’s not possible for us to eliminate environmental pollution totally but we are capable of minimizing it by adopting alternative methods and following certain rules and regulations on how to minimize environmental pollution.As you all know that nothing is impossible,I urge each one of you to step up the fight of this demon called ‘ENVIROMENTAL POLLUTION.’I know it’s not easy but through creating awareness to each other on the importance of keeping our environment clean,I hope we will overcome this demon easily.
I know everyone is earger to know how all these forms of environmental pollution can be overcomes.Water pollution can be minimized by avoiding to dispose waste materials into water sources.It can also be minimized by avoiding cultivating along the water sources as this will prevent agricultural materials like excess fertilizer to enter into the water sources.
On the other hand,soil pollution can be prevented by using appropriate methods of farming and proper disposal of non biodegradable materials.The materials can be disposed in dustbins hence preventing soil pollution.
Environmental pollution is not permanent and can be overcomes.It is now our responsibility to step up and start fighting this calamity called environmental pollution.We have to keep in mind that by protecting the environment,we are protecting ourselves and other living things around us.
